Biography
Brian was born and raised in Denver, Colorado (with a short stint in Hong Kong). He grew up fascinated by flight and studied aerospace engineering at the University of Michigan. At Michigan, he started doing research work on ion propulsion systems for spacecraft, and in his free time worked on solar-powered vehicle team. He completed a PhD in mechanical engineering at Stanford with a focus on diagnostics for combusting systems. While in graduate school he became an EMT on a whim, and after several years in the field decided he wanted to make medicine my career. Brian enrolled in medical school at Stanford after finishing his PhD, and went on to complete his residency at UCSF in emergency medicine. He currently works as an attending physician in the emergency department at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
Research Interests
- Medical device development and prototyping, in particular relating to resuscitation and diagnostics in critical care or prehospital care
Hobbies
- Hiking, mountain biking, skiing, cars
Goals for the Future
- Brian’s goals are being an awesome EM doc and creating new tools for clinicians
